Sarah Pearce ~Amazing memories of memorable tours

Australia-based Travelshoot, founded by Sarah Pearce in 2012, helps global tourists meet best local cameramen and make their travels memorable with extraordinary shots!

The Womenz team had an opportunity to interview Sarah Pearce, Founder &  CEO, Travelshoot, Australia and here’s what they shared with us

Please tell us something about yourself, your education and life before Travelshoot.

I completed a Bachelor of Business degree and majored in Marketing Career. Before Travelshoot I was 8 years in the IT industry – specializing in project communications.

Tell us about your hobbies and skills.

Well, as for hobbies – I’m a new mother, so now I spend any free time I have with my 1-year-old daughter called London. We are currently expecting our second baby early next year! That’s why I really appreciate family time at the moment.

How did you become an entrepreneur?

My own New York City photoshoot experience started it all 2 years ago – and after seeing the response to the product after winning an Australian TV entrepreneur competition (my shark tank), I knew I wanted to pursue this business seriously.

What inspired you to start with Travelshoot? Tell us the story behind it.

My husband Graant and I were travelling in NYC for the first time 2 years ago – and a friend of mine who was a photographer living in Brooklyn took some professional photos of us for his website. Once we had the photos, I shared a few on social media, and I was asked by a lot of families and friends about where and how we had the photoshoot experience. So I invested a year into researching and formulating the business – and now we have over 100 cities all over the world on our network!

How did all the co-founders meet each other?

Tim is my brother – he has a strong business development background, so he was the perfect person to bring into the business.

Tell us more about Travelshoot and its USPs.

Trusted Network: We test all photographers before we let them work with clients.

Price Disruptive: We wanted to make professional photography affordable for everyone, so we have very simple and all-inclusive packages.

Turn Around Time: Photos are delivered online within 48 hours and 7 days, we know customers would want their edited photos to share while they’re travelling, so we guarantee these short timeframes.

Now you can forget selfies and favours from other tourists, and get spoilt by local photographers. Whether it is a family shoot in Paris, a honeymoon in Bali or a business meet in New York City, we make that experience unforgettable!

We pride ourselves on being honest and in our best talent. In the process we give back what we receive to a local charity in the same city.

Tell us something about the initial days of Traveshoot. Your memories of convincing your very first customer.

We were very lucky – after launching off the back of a TV show for entrepreneurs, we were actually inundated with client bookings! It was actually a really ‘positive’ business problem for me to solve.

Your journey as an entrepreneur and motivation to scale this far.

We’ve had some great business wins such as winning competitions, getting investors, and getting a lot of media attention and major partnerships. So the wins have definitely been the core of our motivation and drive to keep scaling globally.

As a women did you face any hurdles in your journey? If yes, how did you face and conquer them?

Well, not really. I had a few ‘strange’ looks from investors when we did our first investment round. I was meeting investors 6 months pregnant, but these perhaps ‘shocked’ responses came from both females and males. So it was interesting to see the type of people who could see past the pregnancy, and focus more on the business strategy and potential.

Your further growth plans.

Global scale continues to be our focus. We’ve increased our global network of photographers by almost 300 per cent in the last year alone, so building this and continuing to work with new partners to align with customers is our focus.

Your biggest achievement so far.

We still having a strong and growing business 2 years in – we know we’ve beaten all the odds for a start-up.

Your views on gender equality.

It’s pretty simple -- everything and everyone should be equal, based on merit and not gender. I haven’t had any bad or unique experience because of my gender. In fact, sometimes I wonder if it’s the opposite – I get more opportunities because there’s good ‘PR’ value in being a female founder.

Any message to aspiring women out there who are struggling to prove themselves?

Focus on the job at hand, work really hard, and if you don’t think you’re getting the credit or progression you deserve, change it. I think some females don’t have the confidence as their male counterparts to change their situation as promptly as they should if they’re not being taken seriously, whether your reporting line is female or male. I’m a big believer in being agile. If some things are not working, don’t get obsessed over it, just do something about it.

Sarah, we at TheWomenz team express our earnest appreciation for sharing your encouraging story with us. We believe it will surely stimulate fellow women in every country and continent in the world.
